Wadi Al-Arish between climate change and floods.. challenges of nature and lessons for the future

Arab Weather - The monster of dry valleys in Egypt, and the Arish Valley is classified as seventh, and this is considered one of the strongest and most dangerous classifications of valleys in hydrological analyses, especially during periods of torrential flow. The valley extends from central Sinai to northern Sinai and flows into the Mediterranean Sea, specifically at the city of Arish. The length of the valley is about 250 km.

In 2010, a strong wave of floods occurred in the fall season in the valley, which led to the destruction and loss of everything around it. Therefore, the use of digital models in predicting rainfall and bad weather waves is considered very important in determining the strength of the falling amounts in dangerous geographical areas exposed to floods, such as dry valleys, and the strength of the flow of floods towards the estuary.

Thus, it is better to benefit from storing water in it and reduce losses, especially with climate changes and the increase in flood waves in some scattered periods and in a sudden and extreme manner, as happened in the fall of late 2019 with strong flood waves more than once in Wadi Al-Arish. However, there was a great benefit from the quantities of running water at that time in a better way.

This is done by holding water through the Arish Dam and storing it. Despite the rare occurrence of flood waves and low rainfall rates in the valley and Egyptian Sinai in general, especially during the last four seasons, it is prepared at any time for sudden flood waves to occur, and thus the occurrence of floods and torrents in the valley, especially in light of the climate changes occurring around the world.
